About us

Wolfbound Books is the brainchild of Aphrodite Delaguiado (founder & publisher at Illographo Press, author & illustrator of META; a member of the NSW Guild of Craft Bookbinders and Penrith Museum of Printing). Aphrodite runs the studio with her partner Maricris, in collaboration with a network of local and international artists, writers and publishers.

We are a studio that celebrates books as an art object; a zine distro that supports indie small press and self-publishers; and a bindery dedicated to preserving the craft of traditional bookbinding. We also trade rare, vintage, and preloved books in English and other languages.

Wolfbound Books and Illographo Press work hand in hand to provide creatives a sustainable alternative to mainstream publishing and distribution. Our viable trading model values creativity and craftsmanship over commercialism.

We are independent and community-centred. We do not receive any public or private funding and are, therefore, not bound by any external pressure or influence. All proceeds from our products and services are invested back into our operations, creative projects, community engagement and advocacies.

Our wolf totem

The wolf is a prominent symbol in mythologies and storytelling cultures throughout Europe, Asia and North America but there is more to this magnificent beast than the “big bad wolf” stereotype from Aesop's Fables and Grimm's Fairy Tales.

The Ancient Greeks associated wolves with the sun god, Apollo. In Roman mythology, the Capitoline Wolf nurses Romulus and Remus, the future founders of Rome. There are three wolves in Norse mythology: Fenrir–attested in ancient Icelandic literature Poetic Edda and Prose Edda–and his children, Sköll and Hati. In Türkiye, the wolf is a revered animal believed to be the ancestors of the Türkçe people. The вук (vuk/wolf) is a symbol of fearlessness in Slavic mythology and Serbian epic poetry. The wolf’s dedication to the pack has made them a totem of loyalty and strength in some Native American cultures.

Wolfbound Books is inspired by the spirit and mythology of the wolf. The wolf’s fearlessness, independence and freedom are at the heart of our creative practice. Every independent artist, zine maker or self-publisher is a lone wolf braving the wilderness. Wolfbound Books exists to support and celebrate these independent makers and connect them with kindred spirits. Our “wolf pack” is a community of bold, passionate, and thriving creatives who are changing the world, one print at a time.
